Jake Reed Obituary, Death – Saturday, family, friends, and coworkers recalled Joplin Police Officer Jake Reed as a funny, confident man with an infectious smile and loveable disposition at the Joplin Public Training and Safety Centre. Anthony Felix shot Reed, 27, and Cpl. Ben Cooper, 46, after a disturbance complaint on March 8, 2022. The service celebrated their one-year death anniversary. Reed died from his wounds three days after the shooting. “Jake was an organ donor, and his end-of-watch to us is March 11 because it takes time to find organ recipients,” said his younger brother Sam Reed.
He said, “Jake left us on the 8th, but he finished his mission in this world on the 11th, saving others.” Four lives were saved by organs. On shooting day, Cooper died. Officer Rick Hirshey, 54, survived a serious injury. Cooper’s memorial funeral at the Public Safety Training Facility drew hundreds on Wednesday. Saturday’s Jake Reed service was packed. Bayley, Reed’s 2021 wife, was encouraged by police. Reed’s relatives and coworkers shared many amusing memories at the event. Joplin Police Sgt. John Isenmann described Reed’s short, thin trousers. Weeks of jokes followed Isenmann’s claim that Jake could barely bend over.
Like Jake, he forgot or smiled and said, ‘I made those feel good.’ I supervised several Joplin employees as Jake’s sergeant. He was my favorite.” Sam Reed called his older brother the kindest, charming, boldest, and funniest man he’d ever met for his calm, witty, and confident nature. Sam believed Jake was born a cop. He added, “My brother died for the Joplin Police Department and community. Fans will continuously discuss Jake. I swear. You’d love Jake if you met or heard his story.
Sam remembered humorous childhood memories like Jake asking for a hunting bow and sending an arrow through the neighbor’s roof or thinking he was a professional wakeboarder after one season on the boat. Jake was funny, sociable, and brave, according to classmates and coworkers. Joplin Police K-9 handler Brad Rich feels Jake would have made a good K-9. Reed enjoyed wakeboarding, golfing, and mountain biking. Detective Logan Bowline of Joplin called Jake a hero and buddy. His mountain biking gang avoided this several-foot drop. Jake shattered his leg on a tree while attempting the drop.
“He took a nose dive down to the ground but somehow saved it,” Bowline said. He clung to avoid crashing, and one small trail tree prevented him from succeeding. It ended. Jake requested a Medivac after riding.” Patrol officer Reed joined Joplin Police in 2017 after graduating with honours in law enforcement and criminal justice administration from Missouri Southern State University. Joplin Police Chief Sloan Rowland read a City Council proclamation declaring March 9 “Jake Reed Day.”
