A Melbourne teenager has admitted his role in a horror train station attack that left schoolboy Pasawm Lyhym dead.

Ngor Dao, 18, pleaded guilty to charges of affray and intentionally causing injury in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

He did not enter a plea on a remaining charge of using a prohibited weapon — a machete — in a public place.

The young man, from Burnside Heights in Melbourne’s outer northwest, appeared remotely via a video link, speaking only to say “yes I do, Your Honour, guilty” when asked how he wanted to plea.

Details of Dao’s role in the incident were not aired during the brief court hearing.

Dao was one of four males charged, and the only one who can be legally identified, after Pasawm, 16, was stabbed and died near Sunshine Station in the city’s west on May 18.

He is not accused of causing Pasawm’s death, while his three co-accused, all under the age of 18, will have their cases continue to progress in the Children’s Court.

Dao was originally charged with recklessly swinging a machete and placing a person in danger of serious injury; however, this was dropped by the prosecution on Wednesday.

Pasawm, a year 11 student at Staughton College, was with friends about 3.45pm when he was violently confronted.

Dao’s bail was extended ahead of his next court appearance in May next year.
